Hussein and Mariga are also set to hold a meeting with the newly elected National Executive Committee (NEC) members this afternoon

Newly elected Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has wasted no time settling into his role, as he assumed office on the first day on Monday, 9 December.

Hussein was elected as the new FKF boss on Saturday 7 December, ousting former president Nick Mwendwa, who had been in charge since 2016.

After promising to "settle in quickly" with his team, Hussein was pictured at Kandanda House—the Federation headquarters—alongside his deputy and former footballer McDonald Mariga, going through their "orientation" before fully occupying the building.

Leading the handover process was Acting Chief Executive Officer Patrick Korir, with Mwendwa and his former deputy Doris Petra conspicuously in absentia.

"First day in office for FKF President Hussein Mohammed," a post from FKF read, accompanied with a picture of the Extreme Sports CEO seated inside the president's office.

The move, as per sources, will also see Hussein and Mariga hold a meeting with the newly elected National Executive Committee (NEC) members as his four-year reign begins.

On his tray lie ongoing collaborations with the government to successfully host next year's African Championships (CHAN).

Sources indicate Kenya is lagging in the process, as its stadiums are nowhere near complete, with Rwanda primed to step in as a suitable alternative.

On that, Hussein told the press on Saturday: "We understand there are critical milestones and deadlines that have to be met, but we are confident that the government will do its part to ensure our stadiums are ready to host the upcoming competitions."

Labeling his leadership as one of "integrity, accountability, and transparency," Hussein will also be tasked to cure ails in the Kenyan game, including corruption, match-fixing, and a lack of sponsorship deals.
