The Ulinzi Stars captain, recently promoted from Senior Private to Corporal in the Kenya Defence Forces, says this gesture is his way of honoring the sacrifices his mother made during his formative years.

First things first, before I do anything else with the money, I plan to build a decent house for my mother,” Muchiri said during a State House luncheon hosted by President Ruto to celebrate Kenya’s CHAN 2024 campaign, as quoted by Nation Sport.

Muchiri recalled how his mother bought him his first ball after joining St. Mary’s Kibabii Boys High School in 2012 and later purchased his first pair of playing boots in Form Two.

She sacrificed a lot for me, and now I just want to give her the best by ensuring she has a good shelter,” he added.

The 29-year-old, who has played for Tusker, Nzoia Sugar, and Sony Sugar and had a stint with Golden State in the USA, was one of Kenya’s standout performers at CHAN 2024.

His speed, set-piece deliveries, and incisive crosses led to key goals, including Ryan Ogam’s winner against Zambia and Alphonce Omija’s strike against Madagascar.

Despite Kenya missing out on the semi-finals, Muchiri expressed pride in the team’s fighting spirit. “I am impressed but also sad because we were unable to qualify for the semi-finals and subsequently the final,” he said.
