The game was abandoned when AFC Leopards fans stormed onto the pitch protesting a bad call and roughed up the match officials

The Round 24 league match between Kakamega Homeboyz and rivals AFC Leopards was forced into abandonment after rowdy fans from Ingwe stormed the pitch past the half hour mark of the game shortly after their team had conceded.

According to an eye witness who spoke to Mozzart Sport, AFC Leopards fans stormed onto the pitch protesting a bad call and roughed up the match officials hence the abandonment of the Ingo Derby.

Prior to the deplorable act, Hillary Otieno had given Homeboyz the lead with the opening goal of the game in the 24th minute sending the home fans into a frenzy.

But the game failed to continue ten minutes later when the crowd ran onto the field causing players, staff and match officials to retreat into the dressing rooms as the crowd engaged in exchanges.

Mozzart Sport understands the chaos started when Farouk Shikalo appeared to have handled the ball outside the penalty area but the referee adjudged that not to be the case, infuriating the agitated Ingwe crowd.

The fans who sat in the VIP section of the field then started throwing plastic bottles on the pitch in protest sparking other fans in the other areas to pelt stones from the unfinished construction areas of the stadium towards the linesman.

In retaliation, the official threw back the stones in protest sparking the anger from the crowd who did not hold back as they descended onto the pitch.

Upon seeing that, the officials were forced to scamper for safety but they are understood to have received beatings from the crowd who went ahead to engage any fans who had donned a Kakamega Homeboyz jersey.

Elsewhere, Nzoia Sugar and KCB continued their hot chase on Gor Mahia and Tusker as they picked wins over Wazito and Mathare United respectively to cement their positions in third and fourth place respectively.

Goals from Kennedy Owino and Kevin Okumu helped KCB to a 2-0 win over Wazito as James Kibande, Joseph Mwangi and Alfred Tanui got the job done for Nzoia against Mathare.
