The Reds join Tottenham in the next round of the League Cup
Manchester City suffered their first League Cup defeat since 2016 as they succumbed to a penalty shoot-out loss at London Stadium on Wednesday night. The two Premier League sides were neck and neck after 90 minutes and needed the shoot-out to settle the tie.
League Cup is often seen as a burden for the big English clubs. It's the competition where only the latter stages seem to draw real attention and youngsters are given chances to shine.
In such a game, Liverpool travelled to Championship team Preston North End in the EFL Cup. And it was a great chance for Jurgen Klopp's forgotten men to show what they can do.

Japanese forward Takumi Minamino and Belgian striker Divock Origi scored for the Anfield team in Preston to give their side safe passage into the next round.
Fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley met at Turf Moor and saw Brazilian Lucas Moura score the only goal to send the Spurs through. There were two other all-Premier League fixtures as Leicester and Brighton shared four goals.
