With the opening rounds of the 2025/26 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League and Confederation Cup group stages concluded over the weekend, Mozart Sport reviews how Kenyan stars fared in Africa’s inter-club competitions.

In Tanzania, Harambee Stars midfielder Duke Abuya was in action, as Yanga launched their group stage campaign with a crucial 1-0 victory over Moroccan side Association Sportive des Forces Armées Royales (AS FAR) at New Amaan Complex Stadium.

Abuya earned a starting berth in the encounter, contributing significantly in the clash that saw Zimbabwean striker Prince Mpumelelo Dube score the decisive goal.

Meanwhile, rivals Simba SC, home to Harambee Stars forward Mohammed Bajaber, endured a disappointing start as they fell 1-0 to Angolan side Petro Atlético de Luanda.

Bajaber, still searching for full match fitness, was not included in the matchday squad.

Bernardo Dias’ 78th-minute strike settled the game.

In Morocco, Zambia’s Power Dynamos and Harambee Stars forward Moses Shumah, suffered a harsh welcome in their CAF Champions League group stage debut at Berkane Municipal Stadium.

Shumah, formerly of Kakamega Homeboyz, clocked 80 minutes in the clash, but his side was unable to contain Moroccan heavyweights, succumbing to a 3-0 defeat.

An early own goal by Aaron Katebe in the 13th minute set the tone, before Mounir Chouiar doubled Berkane’s advantage shortly after.

Paul Valère Bassène then converted a spot kick in the 65th minute to seal an emphatic win, handing Dynamos a difficult introduction to Africa’s premier club competition.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars, featuring Harambee Stars forward Elvis Rupia and the coaching duo of David Ouma and Lawrence Webo, also faced a tough outing.

They went down 2-0 to Algerian side CR Belouizdad, conceding early in the first half.

Goals from Abdennour Belhocini in the fifth minute and Abdelraouf Benguit in the 14th minute ensured a comfortable victory for the North African side, leaving the Tanzanian outfit with work to do in the group stage.
