A lackluster performance from Jose Mourinho's side in the clash against the Dutch team

In a match that wasn't particularly exciting to watch, Feyenoord managed to defeat Fenerbahce and take a first-leg advantage ahead of the return fixture in Istanbul.

Feyenoord took a narrow 1-0 lead into the break after a lively first half in Rotterdam against Fenerbahce in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

The Dutch side came out with intent, testing Fenerbahçe early. In the 5th minute, Sem Steijn had a chance following a corner, but his effort flew over the bar. Just three minutes later, Quinten Timber tried his luck from a free-kick at mid-range, but again the shot went high.

Feyenoord’s pressure paid off in the 19th minute, when Timber found space on the edge of the box and took a shot that deflected off a defender, completely wrong-footing goalkeeper Irfan Egribayat. The ball rolled into the net for 1-0. The goal is HERE!

Fenerbahce had their best opportunity in the 41st minute, when Archie Brown made a brilliant solo run past several defenders and went one-on-one with goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther. Brown aimed for the bottom right corner, but Wellenreuther stayed composed and made a crucial save.

Just seconds later, Fenerbahce thought they had equalized. Youssef En Nesyri put the ball in the back of the net, but the assistant referee immediately raised the flag for offside. Referee Glenn Nyberg consulted VAR, and the decision was upheld — the goal was ruled out due to an offside in the buildup.

In the final moments of stoppage time (45+2), Steijn nearly doubled Feyenoord’s lead with a powerful free-kick from long range, but his shot whistled just over the crossbar.

The second half in Rotterdam brought more intensity and eventually a crucial equalizer for Fenerbahce, as the Turkish side managed to leave De Kuip with a valuable away goal.

Fenerbahce showed greater urgency after the break and nearly leveled the score in the 55th minute, when Irfan Can Kahveci unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box. His effort had the goalkeeper beaten, but the ball sailed just over the crossbar — a narrow miss that could have changed the game much earlier.

Feyenoord responded with their own threat in the 73rd minute. Jordan Bos received a well-timed pass inside the penalty area and had space to shoot toward the far right post. However, Irfan Egribayat read the situation brilliantly and produced a solid save to deny the Dutch side a second goal.

The breakthrough for Fenerbahce finally came in the 86th minute. After an initial shot was blocked by a Feyenoord defender, the rebound fell kindly to Sofyan Amrabat, who struck a powerful shot that bounced off the crossbar and into the net. The Feyenoord keeper was left rooted to the spot as the visitors celebrated a dramatic late equalizer. The goal is HERE!

Just when it seemed the match would end in a draw, Jordan Bos delivered a brilliant cross, and Anis Hadj Moussa met it with a powerful header into the bottom left corner. Irfan Egribayat had no chance. This is the GOAL!
