Sixteen years ago, Marc-Andre ter Stegen shared a dressing room with Venezuelan player Juan Arango. Today, he's at Girona with Juan Arango Jr
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen joined Girona on loan for the remainder of the season.
Although it's a new club for the 33-year-old German keeper, he'll be joining a familiar name in Girona's dressing room - Juan Arango.
Ter Stegen and Arango were teammates in 2010 at Borussia Monchengladbach, but there's a catch here - that was Juan Arango Sr, the dad of Ter Stegen's new teammate.
Believe it or not, the famous keeper is about to achieve an incredible feat as he's about to play with both father and son Arango.

Ter Stegen began his football career at Borussia, playing alongside a then-experienced Venezuelan attacking midfielder. That was Arango Sr's second season at Gladbach, where he played until 2014. In 154 appearances, he scored 25 goals for the Bundesliga side, leaving a significant mark, just as he had done previously at Mallorca between 2004 and 2009. He ended his career in 2017, while Ter Stegen was about to start his meteoric rise.
Interestingly, he left Monchengladbach at the same time as Arango Sr, as he joined Barcelona. However, after 12 years, the time had come for a move, which saw Ter Stegen land at Girona on loan.
And there, another Juan Arango awaits him, but his time is the son, Juan Arango Jr.
The 19-year-old winger joined Girona's youth setup and progressed to the B team in the fourth tier in July 2025, where he has made 12 appearances and scored 3 goals in the 2025/26 season. On 7 December 2025, he made his senior La Liga debut for Girona's first team, coming on in the 84th minute during a 3-0 loss to Elche, earning himself a yellow card shortly after.
From now on, he'll have a proper tutor among the squad and someone who could tell him a story or two about his old man...
