"I'm enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game"

Marcus Rashford's escape from Old Trafford is starting to look less like a loan… and more like a full-time goodbye.

Barcelona are already preparing the ground to keep the England star beyond the end of his season-long loan from Manchester United. The deal includes a €30 million buy option in July 2026, and within Camp Nou, there is a growing belief that it should be activated.

Rashford has revived his career in Spain. Under Hansi Flick, the 28-year-old has become a key attacking weapon, delivering seven goals and 11 assists in 26 games as Barcelona leads La Liga and chases another domestic crown. Once frozen out in Manchester, he is now playing with freedom, confidence and purpose.

At United, the story is very different. Rashford hasn’t worn the red shirt since December 12, 2024, and his relationship with Ruben Amorim collapsed long before the coach was finally dismissed in January. The forward was placed in the infamous "bomb squad", training away from the first team alongside Garnacho, Sancho and Antony - a clear message that his future at the club was all but over.

Amorim's departure has not changed Rashford's status. United's hierarchy had already grown frustrated with what they saw as a lack of commitment from one of the club's highest earners, and his Old Trafford exit was about more than just one manager.

Now, Barcelona are offering him what United no longer could: trust, stability and a leading role in a title-chasing side. Rashford himself has made no secret of where his heart lies.

"I'm enjoying this football club," he said in October. "For anyone who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in history. I needed a change."

After scoring 138 goals in 426 games for United, Rashford may be writing the final chapter of his career far away from the club that raised him. And Barcelona are more than ready to make it permanent.
