Police, who allowed Kakamega Homeboyz to claw back from a 2-0 deficit in their final match of 2025, flexed their muscles this month with three new signings, and head coach Dusan Stojanovic had the luxury of including all of them in his squad on Friday, starting both Yves Koutimana and winger Briyock Malonga.
KCB, on the other hand, had a few notable names on their squad, led by returning goalkeeper Bonphas Munyasa, who was reinstalled to the frame having been dropped for much of 2025 by Matano.
New signing Francis Kahata was named on the bench, joining Fortune Omotto, who finally made the matchday squad after being out with a long injury.
The first half, under the scorching sun, was ,however, less appealing as both sides lacked an edge to themselves, with perhaps the biggest chance coming to the hosts right at the half-hour mark, when they blazed a freekick at the edge of the box over the bar.
Matano, after that showing, opted to introduce former Harambee Stars midfielder Kahata at halftime, but will have hoped to see more urgency from him, as he was booked for a bad challenge 15 minutes later.
Police, who also shuffled their pack by bringing on winger Alvin Mang’eni for his awaited return from injury, should perhaps have gone ahead when Mosengo Tansele crashed a shot onto the crossbar in the 52nd minute.

At the end of a physical contest, neither side had much to show, apart from a point that saw either side stand still on the standings, and checked their pursuit for a title challenge.
Police’s fourth stalemate in their last four games saw them stay in sixth position with 23 points, while KCB, now winless in two, remained seventh a point adrift of their opponents.
