Both the player and club have agreed terms on a 12-month extension

Veteran defender Thiago Silva and Chelsea have reportedly agreed terms on a new one-year contract.

The legendary centre-back, 38, moved to Stamford Bridge from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020.

Since then, he has been the Blues' regular in defence and remains first-choice under new boss Graham Potter, and will be in the starting XI today as the Blues face West Ham in the opening game of the day.

Now, he has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal which will see him extend his Blues career until the summer of 2024.

"I am honestly so happy to continue my career with the Blues," Thiago said shortly after signing.

"When I signed my first contract here, it was to just do one year. Now it is already the fourth! I could not have imagined that, but really it is a very special moment for me to sign and stay at Chelsea."

Silva helped Chelsea to Champions League success during his first year at the club and followed that up the next season by lifting the Club World Cup and Uefa Super Cup.
