Real urges him not to go under the knife, Belgian team doctor is all for it
Edin Hazard injured? Tell me something new. Unfortunately for one of the world’s best midfielders, news about his injuries has become a regular and not-so-interesting topic. The 150 million euro signing from Chelsea in 2019 has only four goals and seven assists in 36 appearances for the club and has featured only once in 2021. And with his latest injury, he may not step on the field for Real Madrid until June.
It is understood that Hazard has another ankle problem and that he wants another operation. But, that decision could cost him his football career, according to a medical expert. Dr. Jose Gonzalez, who works for Real's rivals Atletico Madrid, warned that a third ankle operation could end Real midfielder’s career.
„Hazard has to train with the team for up to 10 training sessions. In my experience, it is difficult for him to return to playing at his level with Real Madrid this season. If a player returns after a long injury without having hardly trained, the most normal thing is that he is injured again. He has anxiety, he wants to show that he is worth and wants to give 100% and he is not there for that. The third operation on Eden Hazard's ankle is very risky, there could be the possibility that the player would not play football again“ Gonzalez told Ondacero.
Hazard has reportedly traveled to London to seek a second opinion on the injury while Real urged the player not to take another operation, and convinced him to avoid another surgery. The Madrid club asked him to be patient and take his time to fully recover from the injury.
Meanwhile, the head of the Belgian national team's medical staff, Kris Van Crombrugge, explained this week that a new surgery would be a good decision for the player in order to avoid missing out on this summer's European Championship.
"The operation may be a good option to restore flexibility to the ankle. But, without wanting to get involved, I would advise that it should be done as soon as possible so as not to hamper his dream of playing in the European Championship" said Van Crombrugge.
