Harambee Stars to play Burundi in March after over one year absence on the international scene

After a 496-day absence, Harambee Stars will play two friendly matches against Burundi during the upcoming international break in March 2023, Football Kenya Federation has confirmed.

The selected team is set to enter residential camp on March 17, 2023 to start preparations for the matches set to take place during the international window set for March 20 to March 28.

Kenya will host Burundi in both matches in Nairobi on March 25 and on March 28, the first international engagement for the Men's National team since November 15, 2021 when they beat Rwanda at Nyayo Stadium

FKF CEO Barry Otieno said the return of the team was a positive development for the country after being in the cold due to a suspension put in place by FIFA for government interference.

“Football is coming back from a very difficult period. We have missed big opportunities for both men and women. These friendlies are the first step in rebuilding the team and getting us ready for competitive international football,” the CEO said.

Engin Firat, who will be handling the team after an initial stint back then, opined that the matches will help keep the team together in preparation for when the country returns to competitive action.
