The appointment was announced by the Brewers' chairman, Charles Gacheru, during the club's end-of-season gala awards on Thursday evening.
Kimathi succeeds Sam Nzau, who departs after three years as CEO.
Nzau, who assumed the role midway through 2023, oversaw a period of organizational stability while steering the club through several transitional phases both on and off the pitch, which culminated with the Mozzart Bet Cup triumph.
His exit paves the way for one of Kenyan football's most respected sports administrators, with Kimathi bringing a unique blend of football operations, high-performance analysis, and executive leadership to the 13-time FKF Premier League champions.
Kimathi has built an impressive reputation in football administration over the years.
He first joined the Harambee Stars setup as the national team's lead performance and data analyst in 2024 before earning promotion to team manager in 2025, a role that placed him at the heart of the national team's day-to-day operations, logistics, and technical coordination.
Away from the national team, Kimathi boasts an extensive international résumé in sports performance and data analysis.
His career has included roles with English side Queens Park Rangers (QPR), Spanish outfit RCD Espanyol, Milton United, and Saracens Women's Rugby, experiences that have exposed him to elite sporting structures and modern football management.
Academically, the incoming CEO is equally accomplished, holding both a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Science (MSc).
Beyond football, he also serves as a member of Kenya's Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) after being appointed by the Judiciary of Kenya, where he helps adjudicate and resolve legal disputes within the country's sporting ecosystem.
In 2025, Kimathi was officially recognized as a National Hero during the Mashujaa Day celebrations in honor of his significant role in the Harambee Stars' achievements on the international stage.
Kimathi now assumes one of the most demanding executive roles in Kenyan club football, with the immediate task of helping restore Tusker's dominance.
The Brewers are targeting a return to the summit of the FKF-PL after a five-year drought, with expectations high that their blend of football expertise, leadership, and administrative experience will help guide the club back to sustained success both on and off the field.
