Ochieng is reportedly on the verge of joining FKFPL debutants Nairobi United

Harambee Stars midfielder John Ochieng has officially parted ways with Zambian Super League side Zanaco FC, marking the end of a two-year stint with the Lusaka-based outfit.

In a brief message posted on his Facebook page, the former Gor Mahia ace confirmed his departure, writing, “Thank you, Zanaco FC. Until next time.”

The message effectively closed the chapter on his journey with the club, which he joined on 24 August 2023 from Gor Mahia.

Ochieng has been in Kenya since the conclusion of the 2024–25 Super League season and did not report back for Zanaco’s pre-season training, sparking speculation over his future.

The club, already deep into preparations ahead of the new campaign kicking off in August, is yet to issue an official statement.

The 26-year-old played a central role in Zanaco’s midfield following his move from K'Ogalo, where he had won the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) title with Gor.

His consistent performances in Zambia eventually earned him a call-up to the Kenya national team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Before his stint abroad, Ochieng rose through the ranks at the famed JMJ Academy before joining the defunct Chemelil Sugar FC, where he played from 2018 to 2020.

He joined Gor Mahia in 2021.

With his departure now confirmed, Ochieng is reportedly on the radar of Mozzart Bet Cup champions Nairobi United.

The FKF Premier League newcomers are actively reinforcing their squad ahead of their top-flight debut and upcoming campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Nairobi United secured continental qualification after stunning Gor Mahia 2-1 in the domestic cup final held last month at Ulinzi Complex—a result that turned heads across the country and sent a clear message of intent from the capital-based side.
