Alphonce Omija is optimistic about recovering in time for Gor Mahia's big clash on Sunday
Injured Kenyan international Alphonce Omija is pleased with his recovery process and hopes to return to the pitch soon.
The Gor Mahia defender has been on the mend after suffering a knock on Friday while playing for Harambee Stars against Zimbabwe.
Omija first felt pain after colliding with goalkeeper Bryne Odhiambo, prompting the medical team to take action.
However, he could not continue and was stretchered off minutes later, with Amos Nondi taking his place.
Speaking to Passion Sports, the former Kariobangi Sharks player reassured fans that he is doing well.
“I got a knee injury against Zimbabwe and returned to Nairobi as the team proceeded to South Africa. However, I have done MRI tests and confirmed that it was just a knock, nothing serious."
The defender, along with Poland-based Erick Ouma, will be missed when Kenya faces Namibia on Tuesday in South Africa.
Despite missing the national team encounter, Omija is optimistic about recovering in time for Gor Mahia's CAF Champions League match.
The Green Army faces African champions Al Ahly SC of Egypt at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday in the CAF Champions League round of 32.
“I should be okay to play for my club, Gor Mahia, on Sunday against Al Ahly,” he stated.
Omija has featured in two matches for Gor at the continental stage against Al Merriekh Bentiu of South Sudan since completing his move from Dhofar SC of Oman.
His absence from the Stars squad is a setback for coach Engin Firat, who is under pressure to deliver positive results following an underwhelming performance against Zimbabwe.
