He joins Bongani Zungu, who also left the club after two seasons at Chloorkop.

South African champions have parted ways with Harambee Stars centre back Brian Mandela following the expiry of his contract.

Mandela's future at the club has been subject of discussions for a long time following his limited game time in the concluded season.

Given the few minutes he saw in the season and the criticism he faced from fans especially after a bad day in the office, Sundowns were expected to let him leave at the end of his contract.

And that is what the giants did, letting the seasoned defender go in what is seen as part of the plan to restructure ahead of the new season.

According to iDiski Times, Mandela's fate has already been sealed and will become the second player to exit after Bongani Zungu.

Mandela joined Sundowns in September 2020 as a free agent from Maritzburg.

He enjoyed game time in his first two seasons at the club but injuries and competition for game time occasionally saw him action.

The 29-year-old made over 61 appearances for Sundowns and scored two goals, but had dropped down the pecking order, making just three starts and nine appearances overall in 2023/24, according to stats provided by iDiski.

The former Santos FC defender won six trophies with Sundowns, including three league titles and the African Football League.

Locally, Mandela has played for Tusker and Posta Rangers.

He moved to South Africa after parting ways with the brewers in 2012.

Mandela joined Santos and would transfer to Mariztburg in 2015.
