PSG decided to sell the Slovak international for 10 million euros

Jose Mourinho had serious problems last season trying to put together a proper back four at Fenerbahçe. The Canaries faced so many injuries in their defensive line that, at one point, they had only one centre-back available. The club decided to knock on Paris Saint-Germain’s door during the winter transfer window and inquire about the possibility of bringing in Milan Škriniar. The Slovak hadn't lived up to expectations at the Parc des Princes, but a move to Sukru Saracoglu Stadium turned out to be the perfect solution.

So much so that the clubs entered negotiations to buy out Skriniar’s contract, which runs with PSG until 2028. Fenerbahce successfully completed the mission and purchased the former Inter defender for 10 million euros. The player who won the Scudetto with Inter four years ago is expected to undergo medical tests and sign a multi-year deal. Last season, the Slovak played 16 matches in the second half of the Turkish Super Lig campaign, was on the pitch every minute, and scored three goals—more than any other defender. The main issue was that he didn’t have a reliable partner alongside him, which made Fener's defense appear weaker than it really was.

Now, Jose Mourinho is pleased. He’ll have at his disposal one of the standout performers from the last half-season—an experienced and proven centre-back who fits his style. Škriniar will become Fenerbahce’s fifth signing in this transfer window, following the arrivals of Jhon Duran, Archie Brown, Tarık Cetin, and Sofyan Amrabat, whose loan from Fiorentina was made permanent. All of this is part of the plan to finally put an end to Galatasaray’s dominance.

Fener is expected to continue shopping during the June transfer window. Reportedly, there’s interest in Joao Cancelo and Douglas Luiz, who hasn’t had much playing time at Juventus. The Istanbul club is even ready to cover the Brazilian midfielder’s five million euros annual salary, according to Turkish media. Federico Chiesa was also mentioned, but the Italian winger was against a move to Turkey and prefers a return to Serie A.
