The midfielder faces a race against time to feature in Sunday's game against St. Pauli.

After missing the last clash against Darmstadt in the German 2.Bundesliga, Hannover 96 head coach Christoph Dabrowski has provided an injury update on Linton Maina.

The midfielder last featured for Hannover in the 3-1 thumping at the hands of Heidenheim earlier this month and was subbed off in the 82nd minute.

Speaking ahead of the clash against St. Pauli on Sunday Dabrowski revealed that Maina is scheduled to return to training with the team as injury assessments continue.

“We have to see from day to day whether it will be enough. Linton should eventually return to training to be an option,” said Dabrowski.

The club confirmed that after the clash against Heidenheim, Maina suffered muscular problems in his thigh which ruled him out of the Darmstadt game.

Maina has been on form for Hannover this season scoring four goals from midfield in 18 games this season and has been instrumental in lifting the club from relegation places.

According to The Bild, Maina has been training in isolation with the club’s fitness trainer and is expected to join the rest of the team on Thursday.

“Maina practiced individually with fitness trainer Felix Sunkel and is scheduled to take part in part of the team training on Thursday,” read an update from The Bild.

Despite featuring for the German junior sides, the 22-year-old is still eligible for Harambee Stars having never turned out for the senior team.
