Hammered at home! Manchester United are out of the Carabao Cup after a pathetic display

Reading Time: 1min | Wed. 22.09.21. | 23:59

West Ham United delivered a mature display and fended off all attacks of the Red Devils to claim a 1-0 win at Old Trafford

Revenge! Just a few days after losing to Manchester United in the Premier League, West Ham travelled to Old Trafford and eliminated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team out of the Carabao Cup.

Manuel Lanzini's goal was enough after eight minutes. Dawson and Diop were magnificent to repel the home team, who looked out of ideas as the match wore on. And in the end, West Ham should have doubled their lead in the closing stages.

It was a great cup tie and a thoroughly entertaining game – unless you're a Manchester United fan. A heroic West Ham effort gave them the win after a tough battle in which the home team attacked for most of the match but were unable to break down the Hammers defence led by the inspired goalkeeper Alfonso Areola.

It was a win to savour for the former Devils manager David Moyes on his return to the red side of Manchester.
