Dortmund continued to spill the points necessary for the Champions League spot
Whenever Jadon Sancho has scored, Dortmund has never lost in the Bundesliga, statistics said. Their record is 23 wins, five draws, and no defeats. And that was again the case in today’s match with Hoffenheim, as the Englishman scored the leading goal for Borussia, who eventually drew 2-2.
The Millionaires can’t be happy about the results, since they are fighting for a Champions League spot, and have already dropped some points against the likes of Freiburg and Mainz, but on the other side, they must feel happy, since Hoffeinhem used only half of their chances in this match, so the 2-2 draw is a good result.
With such a talented squad and great players, it is clear that this team needs a proper coach because Edin Terzic is not the solution. Borussia executives decided to go with him as the caretaker manager after they sacked Lucien Favre, but Dortmund is playing worse than they did before and they are risking the Champions League place.
The first half was basically an open game, with a quick tempo and a lot of chances for both teams. It started with Haaland’s chance in the 11th minute, but the Norwegian didn’t score in a one-on-one situation with Baumann. Then it was Babeu’s show, but Hoffenheim’s number 9 just couldn’t finish properly after excellent chances in the 18th and 23rd minutes. The Togolese footballer is blessed with pace, and caused a lot of problems to Dortmund’s defense, but he needs to approve his finishing. Instead of 0-2 for the guests, it was 1-0 in the 24th minute, after Sancho used his pace to run away from Hoffenheim’s defense after a pass from Guerreiro, and finish nicely for the lead.
Just seven minutes after, Hoffenheim used many of his chances, but this time it was Dabbur, who turned his first chance into a goal for 1-1.
The guests continued with missed chances, and it was Dabbur again causing problems for the Dortmund keeper Hitz, who had to tip the ball over the bar to prevent the complete turnover. But after he denied Dabbur, he was helpless when Babeu finally used one of his chances and scored for the lead in the 51st minute.
After the goal, the tempo of the match slowed down a bit, but still, we saw plenty of chances and even a disallowed goal from Haaland. Reus, Moukoko, and Dahoud all came in for the last 30 minutes of the match, but the chances were again missed by Hoffenheim, this time by Rudy, and again Babeu.
Of course, the punishment for those misses came in a form of Haaland, who slotted the ball past Baumann in the 81st minute for the final score 2-2.
