Haaland-less Borussia struggle against modest Augsburg but win despite tons of misses

Thorgan Hazard and Marco Reus fail to find the back of the net, but home team win thanks to Julian Brandt's splendid finishing

Anything but smooth.

That's how Borussia Dortmund look without their mighty machine Erling Braut Haaland, who missed the game due to an injury. Haaland-less Dortmund basically struggled during the entire 90 minutes at home against less than solid Augsburg but pulled off a significant 2-1 victory.

It all started fine for the Millionaires, with Guerreiro converting a penalty ten minutes into the game.

But when everyone at Signal Iduna Park thought we would see a cannonade, the visitors bounced back unexpectedly. Augsburg tied the game at one via Zeqiri near the half-time break and made BVB coach Marco Rose's job extremely difficult.

He tried with some changes, replacing deplorable Belgium internationals Witsel and Meunier with their compatriot Thorgan Hazard and Emre Can.

Much better and faster ball movement in the second half led to several excellent goal-scoring opportunities, but Borussia managed to score only once. It was a delightful counter-attack which Julian Brandt placed into Augsburg's bottom corner.

What followed was Dortmund's dominance that, ironically, lacked only goals due to terrible misses. Hazard Jr and Reus were one-on-one with the opposite keeper, respectively, but both failed it big time. All in all, they deserved a win but will be impatient to see their top player rejoin the squad for the upcoming challenges.
