Lewandowski, Gnabry and Choupo-Moting scored for the Bavarians
It was a short-lived crisis of results for Bayern in the Bundesliga: a draw against Armenia and a loss to Frankfurt, but this Saturday, things got back to normal, with another convincing win: Bayern – Koln 5-1.
It was one of those „boring“ games in which the current champion dominates and scores a lot of goals, but they also had a bit of luck, since the schedule allowed them to play against lowly Koln, which they fully used for confidence build. They now again have a five-point cushion ahead of Leipzig, who has a tough match against Monchengladbach in the afternoon.
Hansi Flick named the same team m that won 4-1 at Lazio on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League last 16, with the exception of Kingsley Koman, who was rested in favor of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. The former PSG player wasn’t as near as good as Koman, but he did score the first of the two Bayern goals in the first half. The absence of Koman and Thomas Muller wasn’t so visible because The Bavarians had Leon Goretzka, who managed three assists and generally had an excellent game. He first assisted to Choupo-Moting in the 18th minute, and then exchanged passes with Robert Lewandowski for the second goal. On the other side, Koln had double zero in the first half – in attempts on and off the target.
After two quick changes at the beginning of the second half, Koln pushed a bit harder and managed to score an early goal. Ellyes Skhiri used the miscommunication from Boateng and Alaba to take the ball, passed both of them (and Alphonso Davis), and chiped a superb finish over the advancing Neuer.
But, Koln are in the lower section of the Bundesliga table for a reason, and they didn’t survive to push for the equalizer. Within 16 minutes, it was 3-1 and soon after that, it was all over. When Gnabry was introduced in the 64th minute, he scored two more to make it convincing 5-1 to the current champions.
All in all, Bayern are on course for the Bundesliga title, while Koln will try to secure survival in games with easier opponents.
