Wasuna says the club has no plan to hire a new gaffer

Gor Mahia have dispelled rumors suggesting that Belgian tactician Ivan Minnaert is likely to be appointed as their new head coach.

The former AFC Leopards coach has been strongly linked with a possible move to the defending champions but the club through its vice chairman Francis Wasuna says there are no plans to hire a new coach.

Minnaert watched from the stands as Gor Mahia took on Posta Rangers in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match played on Wednesday at the Kasarani Stadium. The former Rayon Sports gaffer joined Ingwe in October 2016 but was controversially shown the door the following month owing to a string of poor results

We have no intentions to bring in a new manager. Just because Minnaert came to watch our match, it doesn’t mean we are interested in his services. He is probably in the country and stadium on a different mission,” he said

Wasuna further reiterated their support for their current coach Carlos Vaz Pinto. The Portuguese national who joined K’ogalo in January has been under intense pressure after failing to guide the club to the group stages of the        Caf Confederations Cup as well as registering a series of unwanted results in the league.

Pinto, was shipped in to plug in the gap left by Brazilian Roberto Oliveira who quit in December last year after his credentials fell short of the Caf requirements.

We have no plans to hire a new coach. The current technical bench has our support and we are hoping they will salvage something in the season," he added

Oliveira had replaced Steven Polack who left in October last year
