K’Ogalo, who are currently six points above arch-rivals AFC Leopards, will be gunning to sit at a familiar margin of points going into the cup weekend, having been nine points ahead of Ingwe last Saturday, only to see that gap trimmed a day later.

Charles Akonnor’s outfit comes into the tie on the back of one of the best runs this season, having enjoyed a flawless February and riding on a seven-match winning streak in the league.

To emphasize the Green Army’s superiority, you’ll have to go back as far as 7 December last year to find the last time Gor Mahia lost a game, when they went down to AFC Leopards in that famous Mashemeji Derby at Nyayo Stadium.

Post that painful defeat, K’Ogalo have hit the right notes, only dropping points on three other occasions, with one being the contested cum controversial draw with Nairobi United.

Despite being the league-leading offense, Akonnor is, however, wary of his side’s rearguard, which he believes is conceding one too many goals.

Gor Mahia, who have conceded in three of their last five matches, trail defending champions Kenya Police and AFC Leopards in the goals against column, a statistic that the Ghanaian head coach, in addition to the injury to striker Felix Oluoch, will be ruminating over going into the afternoon installment scheduled for 1600 EAT.

And if things are looking up for Gor, Posta’s recent predicaments are the opposite and will be, at least. On paper, they were viewed as big underdogs.

Having been installed as the side’s head coach in late November, Collins "Korea" Omondi is staring at a free fall from his Mailmen, who have failed to win in their last 10 matches.

Reversing the roles with their opponents, Posta’s last win was back in early December last year, and a look at their points total will present them with the reality that they are now in a race against relegation.

Posta, who were pummeled 3-0 by Gor Mahia in October’s first leg, are 13th on the log with 24 points, which is five above the red zone, and with 11 matches left.

Another loss here, and the alarm bells, if not sounding, will ring in their ears.

A win, which would present a first against Gor since October 2022, offers hope, and not just for them.
