After leading the club to a record-extending 22nd league championship this season, both Shariff Musa and Enock Morrison headline the nominations for the league’s best player, whose winner will be unveiled in a gala ceremony on Thursday, 4 June.

The duo will be joined in the run-in by three other contenders, including: AFC Leopards defender Kayci Odhiambo, Mara Sugar defender Jimmy Owili and Murang’a Seal striker Joe Waithira.

Musa, a winger, gets the nod after a dazzling season for K’Ogalo, which has so far seen him score six goals and make seven assists, all while winning a Player of the Month award in October and landing seven team of the week nominations.

In addition, the former Kariobangi Sharks winger has contributed much to Gor Mahia ranking as the league’s best offense, racking up 60 shot attempts, and creating 37 chances in a whooping 33 matches.

Morrison, on the other hand, lands the nomination after his dominant show in midfield for Gor Mahia, a trait that has seen him score three goals, and register four assists.

The Ghanaian midfielder, known to be one of the vocal leaders in the league, has also landed nine team of the week appearances, and three player of the month nominations, to coincide with his impressive stats on the field.

So far this season, Morrison has won 61 balls and 34 tackles in 30 matches.

Not surprising, Waithira also makes the shortlist after a phenomenal season for Murang’a Seal, where has scored a league-high 19 goals, and is favorite for the 'Golden Boot' award.

Waithira, who has also registered two assists, also boasts of scooping the December Player of the Month Award, to go with his seven man of the match accolades.

To show how sharp he has been in front of goal, Waithira has a 51 per cent shot accuracy from the 75 attempts he has created in 32 matches this season.

As for Odhiambo, his nomination comes on the back of yet another stellar display at the heart of the AFC Leopards’ defense, where he has led the club closer to ending their league title drought.

In 26 matches, the converted centre-back has recorded 13 clean sheets, and contributed on the other end of the field with three goals.

With 130 clearances, 26 blocks and 55 interceptions, Odhiambo has also landed one player of the month nomination, and won three man of the match awards.

One from the left field, Owili makes the five-man shortlist, following his impressive show in the Mara Sugar defense, where he plies as a left back.

Owili, in 33 matches this season, has scored three goals and created eight assists, all whilst coming big in his area of the field with 157 clearances, 80 interceptions, and 52 balls won.

His performances, which have also seen him get two player of the month nominations and win seven man of the match awards, have pushed the Millers to what could end up being their first-ever top 10 finish in the league, since their promotion two seasons ago.

The player of the season accolade is expected to highlight a night of celebration for the FKF Premier League, with other awards being issued including: the 'Golden Boot', 'Golden Glove', and Coach of the season.
