Mathare seemed to take control of the game in the initial stages, dominating the midfield and denying Gor entry into their final third.
However, it was Gor who had the first real chance in the game from a freekick but Austin Odhiambo's attempt was dealt with by Omar Adisa.
Against the run of play, Gor opened the scoring 24 minutes through Philemon ,an unlikely scorer. Otieno made a cheeky run behind the defence before slotting the ball past Adisa.

Must admit I'm surprised at how he kept his composure to slot that in.

The goal disoriented the Slum Boys as Gor Mahia took control of the game.
The initial lead lasted only 15 minutes, with Sichenje leveling matters six minutes to the break. Khalid Jumaan picked sichenje with a perfect ball on the left side of the attack before he unleashed a low hard shot past Gad Matthews.
On resumption for the second period, Johnathan McKinstry made a double change as he brought in Peter Lwasa and Alpha Onyango in the places of George Odhiambo and Shaffiq Kagimu.
Odhiambo had a rather quiet game in the first half and McKinstry was hoping that the introduction of Lwasa would add some vibrance to the team.
The change paid off 16 minutes into the second half when Lwasa's effort saw Omondi reclaim Gor Mahia's lead. From the left, Lwasa's shot cum cross was parried by Adisa but not far away enough, falling just infront of Omondi who made it 2-1.
With 15 minutes left to play, Collins 'Korea' Omondi made a triple change, bringing in the trio of Chris Opondo, Steve Kimari and Douglas Koech for Sichenje, Jumaan, and Baron Oketch.
He further followed that change with another as Francis Wasike coming on for Daniel Otieno.
K'Ogalo were dealt a blow in the latter stages of the game as Emery Bayisenge had to come off after seemingly pulling his hamstring, with Paul Ochuoga coming in to replace him.
In stoppage time, Ochuoga almost gave Gor the third after being picked by Patrick Kaddu who had just come on for Benson Omala but the right back saw his effort miss by inches.
