Barcelona lost 2-1 to Girona on Monday night in the final game of the latest La Liga round, thus staying in second place, two points below Real Madrid.

This defeat hurts even more for Hansi Flick’s team because they were ahead after 60 minutes, but then conceded twice and lost.

Barcelona also hit the woodwork twice when the score was still 0-0.

Raphinha hit the post with a low shot just before half-time.

Lamine Yamal did the same from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time.

Barca finally scored around the hour mark when Pau Cubarsi headed the ball into the net.

The visiting fans erupted in celebration.

But the lead was short-lived. Just two minutes later, Girona tied the game. A slow attack quickly turned into a clever move on the left, ending with a sharp cross to an unmarked Thomas Lemar, who scored to make it 1-1.

Flick's team was clearly shaken and struggled to recover, giving Girona plenty of space and chances to take the lead. It was almost surprising that the home side did not score again.

In fact, Garcia made three outstanding saves within just a few minutes.

First, he made two quick saves in a row, then pulled off another impressive stop five minutes later to keep his team in the game.

Flick brought on Lewandowski and Ronald Araujo, who had scored the winner in the reverse fixture in October 2025, but Barcelona still seemed to be missing something.

Yamal was not involved in the play, and De Jong and Olmo struggled to link up the attack as expected.

Girona's experienced players, like Blind and Witsel, managed the pressure calmly - at least until the last ten minutes.

That was the moment the chaos erupted on both ends - and Barcelona were the ones that failed to accommodate properly.

Out of the blue, Girona kick-started a counterattack that ended with Fran Beltran’s routine shot past Garcia, for a complete comeback and a stunning win.
