Mid-season transfer window opens on March 1and closes on 15

Women Premier League (WPL) 2019 runners-up Gaspo Youth are back on the market as they look to rope in two utility players when Football Kenya Federation (FKF) declares the mid-season transfer market open on March 1.

Team Manager Edward Githua says that, while his side is doing well with the squad as currently constituted, they are lacking a depth that would cushion them in the event of serious injuries.

“Most of our players can perform well in different positions but we need to add two more players who can step up in the event of injuries or unavailability for whatever reason. We have lost two players this season Rhoda Nafula who is injured and Laventine Lihemo who is set to join Kibera Soccer and we feel a need to add two in the mid-season break,” said Githua.

The side that trains at the State House ground opposite State House Girls every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday has called on interested players to communicate ahead of the window that opens on March 1 and closes on March 15.

Third on the zone A log, Guthua’s charges take on seventh-placed Makolanders on Saturday, 13 February at Stima Club from 2 pm as they look to cement third place. Thika Queens lead the zone at 18 points with Ulinzi Starlets second at 12 points, two better than Gaspo.

Ahead of the 2021 season, Gaspo signed Kisumu’s Mercy Airo, Unaizah Shajani, a former Again Khan academy player who has also been part of the IHM Football Academy in Manchester. For the 2019/20 season, the defensive midfielder who can also play on attack had signed for Spanish side CF Joventut Almassora from Bury WFC.

Others who joined the Kiambu-based team are forward Diana Wacera and midfielder Queenter Okwayo from Mathare Women and Spedag respectively. Others include Doris Anyango also from Spedag, Treezer Manyala from Kisumu and Stella Liseche from Kibera Girls. Githua had also acquired the services of three ex-Wiyeta players Nafula, winger Lihemo and midfielder Hellen Awino.
