The former Harambee Stars captain featured for 90 minutes in the game.

Victor Wanyama featured for 90 minutes and skippered CF Montréal in the later stages of the game as they overcame Inter Miami 3-1 in the final Major Soccer League (MLS) match of the season played at Miami's DRV PNK Stadium on Sunday night.

Wanyama announced earlier this week that he will be leaving Montréal at the end of the season and if he doesn't sign for another MLS side, then that was his last league match and team now shifts focus to the playoffs.

Đorđe Mihailović who's set to join AZ AlKmaar in January got the ball running with the opener in the fifth minute. Three minutes later, he set up Lassi Lappalainen for the second of the game.

Kei Kamara then put the match beyond the hosts' reach in the 36th minute with the third goal of the game for the determined visitors. Joel Waterman own goal five minutes from time gave, Miami some consolation.

14 teams have qualified for the playoff and they could all win the Cup. Seven teams from the Eastern Conference and a similar number from the Western have made it to the playoff. The top two from each zone (Philadelphia Union and Los Angeles FC) automatically qualify for the semis while the other 12 will go through playoffs.

Montréal, who finished second in the Eastern Conference will face Orlando City who finished seventh on Monday 17th October and a win will take them to the semis.

After the match, Mihailovic spoke of his desire to win the title and believes that they have the quality to achieve that.

“I remember my first interview with you guys and I said I wanted an MLS Cup and I think that we can do that. We have the quality, we have the most wins in the East and we showed we’re a top team in the league. Winning the MLS Cup should be the goal of everyone on this team and it’s a reachable goal.”
