Ssimbwa has been tasked with leading the team to the top flight. After 15 matces, Kitara lead the log with 30 points.
Former Sofapaka FC head coach Sam Ssimbwa has joined Ugandan second-tier league leaders, Kitara FC for the remainder of the season where he will be hoping to guide the team to the top tier.
Ssimbwa replaces Mark Twinamatsiko who a fortnight ago was suspended by the club for two months for what the club termed as a poor relationship with the playing unit, he was accused of insulting and threatening players.
“Kitara football club on Sunday evening officially presented to their fans at Kigaaya playgrounds CAF A license holder Sam Ssimbwa Bamweyana as their new head coach for the rest of the season. Ssimbwa who joins us following the suspension of Mark Twinamatsiko last month will have the opportunity to renew his contract after expiry should he guide Kitara back to the Uganda premier league,” read a statement from the club in part.
Other than Ssimbwa, other members of the technical bench include George Lutalo who will serve as an assistant coach, the pair has previously worked together at KRA. Nicholas Ssengoba joins as the physio while former Thika United custodian Hamuza Muwonge will sharpen the keepers.
“George Lutalo, Hamza Muwonge, and Nicholas Ssengoba will work with Ssimbwa and assistant, goalkeeping coach, and physiotherapist respectively to steer the Royals to success. Lutalo has previously worked with Ssimbwa as an assistant at URA football club while Hamza Muwonge played under the latter who was then Mohammad Abbas’ assistant on the national team in 2005,” added the statement.
On his part, the tactician promised to steer the team to the top flight. He says his priority will be getting wins on the road which has proved a challenge for the team in the first leg.
“We are excited to be here and promise to work as a team; with my players and administration to make sure we bring success to Kitara. One of our roles is to get the best from the players while the most important thing is winning games away from home which has been a challenge if you look at the first round, thus we must work hard to improve that record in order to qualify to the Uganda premier next season".
The club also unveiled their four new signings. They are; Paul Mucureezi, Godfrey Lwesibawa, George Ssenkaba, and Farouk Katongole.
Ssimbwa will however have to do with striker Patrick Kaddu who is the club's top scorer. The attacker is expected to sign for Gor Mahia.
