The experienced forward, who rejoined Homeboyz at the start of the season for a second stint, netted a late equalizer in a thrilling 2-2 draw against KCB FC, reigniting his hunger for silverware.
While Homeboyz’s aspirations for a maiden FKF Premier League title appear to be fading following the stalemate with the Bankers, Thiong'o remains optimistic about the team’s chances in the domestic cup.
The Kakamega-based outfit, winners of the 2023 edition of the Mozzart Bet Cup, are determined to reclaim the trophy and add another accolade to their growing history.
In 2023, Homeboyz secured their first-ever top-flight silverware with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tusker in the June finals.
This season, their cup journey began in a tense fashion, requiring a penalty shootout to progress past the preliminary round.
They later edged Samitsi Football Club 1-0 to book a place in the Round of 16, where they are set for a third meeting this season with Shabana.
With the cup now presenting the most realistic opportunity for silverware, Thiong'o is eager to lead Homeboyz to another triumph.
“The league title is slightly out of reach, but winning the Mozzart Bet Cup is a realistic goal. We have three matches to navigate, and I believe we can achieve this. Personally, I hope this goal reignites my form and helps push the team to success,” said Thiong'o.
The former Posta Rangers forward also expressed relief at breaking his long-standing goal drought.
Before his strike against KCB, Thiong'o had endured a 17-month barren run, with his last goal coming in a 3-1 victory over Sofapaka while playing for Posta Rangers.
“I am delighted to have finally ended the goal drought that lasted over a year. Scoring again gives me confidence, and I hope to add a few more goals before the season concludes,” he added.
