Shamed but free, Mason Greenwood will try to relaunch his career in Spain
Getafe has announced the loan signing of Mason Greenwood. The Spanish club will not be paying a fee for the English forward but will cover a small contribution to his wages for the duration of the loan.
Greenwood had been suspended since January 2022 by the Premier League side over the allegations, but prosecutors dropped charges, including attempted rape and sexual assault in February. Last week, United and Greenwood mutually agreed the striker would leave Old Trafford.
The Bradford-born player scored 35 goals and 10 assists in a total of 129 appearances for United, but any attempt to integrate him back into the squad was met with a wall of disapproval from the public in England. He will now seek to redeem himself in the Spanish team, which incorporates a talented attacker who promises to make a leap in quality.

Last week, Greenwood tried to clear his name in an open letter to Manchester United fans.
"I did not do the things I was accused of, and in February, I was cleared of all charges. However, I fully accept I made mistakes in my relationship, and I take my share of responsibility for the situations which led to the social media post. The best decision for us all, is for me to continue my football career away from Old Trafford, where my presence will not be a distraction for the club. I thank the club for their support since I joined aged seven. There will always be a part of me which is United."
