This marks a historic edition of the tournament, as it will be the first time Africa’s premier football showpiece is played over the Christmas and New Year period.
Twenty-four national teams, including defending champions Côte d’Ivoire, record winners Egypt, and hosts Morocco, were placed into groups during the official draw held in Rabat on Monday, 27 January.
The competition will run across six Moroccan cities, with teams battling through the group stages before heading into the knockout rounds, culminating in the final on 18 January 2026.
For Owiti, being named an AFCON influencer is a moment of pride and reflection.
Speaking from Marrakesh, the outspoken football lover could not hide her excitement.
"I am in Marrakesh in Morocco, because drum rolls… I have been selected as one of AFCON influencers. Come on. It is a huge opportunity for me, to be honest, and I sometimes honestly do not believe my life. I swear to God, if you come from where I come from, where your role models are basically fishermen and fisherwomen," the excited Owiti offered.
She is no stranger to sports advocacy. Owiti is a dedicated supporter of Ulinzi Starlets and a familiar face at Kenya Premier League matches.
She has consistently championed women’s involvement in sports.
In June, she organized the Empower Mchezaji tournament in Kajiado, an initiative designed to challenge societal norms and highlight the barriers faced by women athletes in Kenya.
With AFCON 2025 expected to draw a global audience surpassing 300 million viewers, influencers like Owiti will play a vital role in amplifying African football stories, engaging fans, and showcasing the cultural and social impact of the tournament.
