The German has already worked with the brilliant defender in the national team and wants him at Barca

At 29, Jonathan Tah is at a career crossroads — and his next move may depend more on patience than paperwork. The German international center-back, long admired by Hansi Flick, has become a top target for the incoming Barcelona manager, who is eager to reinforce the squad’s defensive core ahead of next season.

While a move to Bayern Munich has been widely reported in Germany as all but done — especially with Tah’s contract at Bayer Leverkusen set to expire on June 30 — the player himself hasn’t made any final decision. According to sources close to him, Tah is still weighing his options, and crucially, he hasn’t closed the door on Barcelona.

In fact, the defender is said to have a verbal agreement with Barça. The issue? Financial fair play regulations continue to tie the hands of the Catalan club, preventing them from making any formal offers. Despite this, Tah remains willing to hold out, trusting in Flick’s commitment to bringing him in. He understands that while the coach is firmly in his corner, administrative hurdles — like salary limits and registration restrictions — are outside Flick’s control.

For now, the wait continues. Those around the player admit there’s no clear timeline: it could be a matter of days, weeks, or even longer, depending on how quickly Barca can sort out their financial constraints. Still, Tah hasn’t rushed into Bayern’s open arms — despite the Munich club’s aggressive push in recent days.

Barcelona may view the signing as complicated, but Flick hasn’t given up. And neither, it seems, has Tah.
