FKPL Wrap: AFC Leopards claws Kakamega Homeboyz to end winless streak as Gor, Tusker pick wins

AFC Leopards claimed a second win of the season after beating Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

Clifton Miheso and Hassan Beja scored to hand Tomas Trucha first win since taking over at the Den and ending Homeboyz recent dominance in the fixture furthermore, halting their six match unbeaten run.

Ingwe handed an unlikely cameo for Levis Opiyo between the sticks alongside full back Aziz Okaka and forward Maxwell Mulili in the only notable changes to the squad.

In the absence of Brian Eshihanda who was serving suspension, Patrick Odhiambo handed a rare start to George Odiwour at the back as he maintained the team that beat Shabana last weekend

Ingwe started the match on high intensity and in the 10th minute had a penalty appeal rejected in what seemed like a stone wall spot kick, Homeboyz responded almost immediately with Moses Shumah tying up Moses Mudavadi but the captain's header narrowly missed the target.

Homeboyz were poised to break the deadlock in the 27th minute with twin attacks from Eston Omengo and Hillary Otieno but Levis Opiyo stretched to deny Otieno.

The Mozzart Bet defending champions were made to rue their missed chances five minutes later when Cliff Nyakeya was fouled in the penalty area earning a spot kick for the Big Cats that Miheso converted with ease to hand Trucha charges the lead with 32 minutes played.

In the 37th minute, Beja scored to extend AFC Leopards lead in the match that was fairly attended by their supporters, tapping in from close range a Maxwell Otieno cross after he had done the donkey work.

Three minutes to the conclusion of the first half, Odhiambo threw in Chris Masinza for Francis Omondi but Ingwe held on to head into the breather with a comfortable 2-0 lead

Five minutes after the restart, Homeboyz replaced Brian Bulleti with Ugandan striker Davies Kasirye.

Homeboyz thought they had halved the deficit in the 51st minute but the referee called a foul on the returning Opiyo in goal.

In response to Leopard's pressure, Odhiambo made more changes as he replaced Shummah and Mudavadi for Stephen Opoku and Tanzanian Oscar Paul.

There were chances for Odhiambo's side in the last ten minutes but Kasirye efforts from 25 yard free kick was dealt with the solid Ingwe backline to deny the Uganda International.

Ingwe were able to deal with last minute pressure from Abana Ba Ingo and finally emerged winners ending their six match winless streak.

Talanta vs Gor Mahia

At Bukhungu Stadium, Gor Mahia scored two second-half goals to open a four-point lead at the summit of the FKF Premier League table.

After a goalless first half, Boniface Omondi and Austine Odhiambo scored in the 57th and 68th minute respectively to hand K'Ogalo the eighth win of the campaign and condemn Ken Kenyatta's charges to a third straight match without a win.

The victory not only leaves Gor invisible but also keeps them clear in the title race as they seek a 22nd league gong.

In Machakos, Posta Rangers' struggles under Muhoroni Youth persisted as they lost 1-0 at the Kenyatta Stadium.

Rangers, who have won one game in the last seven games, find themselves five points behind Gor Mahia at the helm of the table.

Elsewhere, Tusker's resurgence this term continued with a 2-0 win over Nzoia Sugar at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.

Mike Odour and Chris Erambo were on target for the beer makers while Daniel Omuse got his matching orders to see the Millers finish the game ten men.

Robert Matano charges fourth straight match without defeat lifted them to seventh on the log with 22 points while Nzoia settle in the relegation zone with 10 points.

At Ulinzi Sports Complex, Nairobi City Stars came from a goal down to see off Ulinzi Stars 2-1 in their backyard.

Bonface Muchiri had the military side ahead in the 38th minute while Vincent Owino and Dennis Oalo scored in the 62nd and 73rd minute respectively to hand City Stars all the points.

At the Police Sacco Stadium, Kariobangi Sharks and Bidco United played to a barren draw.
