League newbies Kayole Starlets welcome FKF Cup champions Kibera Soccer Women at the Kasarani Annex from 1300 hrs in what has been dubbed The Slum Derby, with both teams tracing their roots to Kenya’s two iconic slums.
Ahead of the afternoon clash, defending champions Kenya Police Bullets remain at the top of the table with 15 points, two ahead of second-placed Trinity Starlets, while Vihiga Queens sit third with 11 points.
Kayole has enjoyed a fairly bright start to life in the top flight. In their four league matches so far, they have won two, drawn one, and lost one, placing them sixth on the log with seven points.
Kibera Soccer Women, on the other hand, are still hunting for their first win of the season.
They have drawn two and lost two of their opening four matches, a run that leaves them in the relegation zone at 10th place with two points.
Kayole’s last outing was a barren draw away to Bungoma Queens, which leaves them eager to capitalize on home advantage and return to winning ways.
Head coach Mary ‘Busu’ Adhiambo believes her squad has what it takes to collect maximum points, citing their steady improvement.
“Since we lost our first match (against Police), we have been improving in our results and keeping clean sheets. I believe that we will continue with the same form against Kibera.
Having failed to score in our last match, we have been working a lot on finishing and creativity, and I believe we will score goals in the match,” Adhiambo told the club’s media.
The coach has also received a boost with the return of Fidy Kimani and Magneta Ocharo, who missed the previous match due to injuries.
For Kibera Soccer Women, the objective is clear: to secure their first win of the campaign after a sluggish start.
Last season, Kibera were strong title contenders and even led the table for much of the second leg before Kenya Police Bullets eventually overtook them.
This term, however, they have struggled to replicate that form, largely due to the departure of several key players and head coach David Vijago, who crossed over to Kenya Police.
