FKFPL Week 6 Review: Shabana breaks jinx as K'Ogalo asserts supremacy

Reading Time: 3min | Mon. 09.10.23. | 12:56

Posta Rangers' fine run persisted and they are still at the helm of the FKFPL log after six rounds of matches

After five attempts, Shabana FC, one of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) new faces this season, bagged their first win in one of the highlight performances of Week 6 fixtures.

It was also the week that served as the first leg of the never ending rivalry between nemesis AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia.

Posta Rangers continued to thrive as they picked another win that kept them at the apex of the table with a clear four-point gap.

Sofapaka's woes deepened as new kids on the block Murang'a Seal handed them their fourth straight defeat.

Shabana rebirth continues

A 1-0 win at Tusker FC on Friday ended a five-game winless streak for the coach Sammy Okoth's side.

It was a sweet reward for the club's loyal fans who showed up in huge numbers at Kasarani Stadium, despite being a working day, to witness the epic battle.

The Kisii-based side headed into the fixture against a backdrop of three draws and loses, and a fanbase that had started growing impatient.

There were also rumors of Okoth throwing in the towel, but the management kept faith in him.

With the win, only Sofapaka and AFC Leopards now remain without a victory this season.

K'Ogalo bags bragging rights

Gor Mahia restored their dominance over their arch rivals AFC Leopards with a clinical 2-0 at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday.

A brace from red hot striker Benson Omala put the Leopards to the squad, as K'Ogalo avenged last season's 2-1 loss.

It was another well attended match as the Mashemeji Derby, once again proved its endless allure and taste.

Above all, it was a show of quality between the two squads, with K'Ogalo boasting great depth, mostly in the midfield.

E-ticketing

Leopards may have lost on the field, but off it, they scored big with the implementation of their newly introduced electronic ticketing system.

Ingwe management mounted a great online campaign to sell the gate passes in advance, in a rare show of top notch organization.

Some hitches in the system were reported but there's a huge potential in the technology-based system if properly rolled out and supported.

Posta Rangers on a roll

It was a big weekend for Posta Rangers who recorded their fifth straight win with a well worked 2-0 victory of Nzoia Sugar FC.

The Mailmen have been cited as being cohesive and play with a great understanding of each other on the field.

It was another masterclass for coach John Kamau who was last weekend named coach of the week.

The win cemented their top position on the table standings with 16 points - four better than second placed Gor Mahia.

TV at last

The week saw the league's new broadcast sponsor Azam TV beam live their first game of the season, the Mashemeji Derby.

The one-hour build up of the match and commentary was quality.

We hope that after the international break, more live matches will be on offer.
