FKFPL preview: Winless Zoo face stuttering Sofapaka

Reading Time: 2min | Wed. 10.02.21. | 09:33

Sofapaka start life without long serving former skipper Elly Asieche who unexpectedly decamped to moneybags Wazito last week

Struggling Sofapaka relish their chances against a Zoo side that is yet to record a win this season in Football Kenya Federation Premier League’s rescheduled midweek fixture at Kasarani Annex stadium today.

New head coach Ken Odhiambo will be a worried man when his Batoto ba Mungu side field to play Zoo. Since taking over from John Baraza, Ken has had mixed results in the six games he’s overseen. His side has won twice, drawn twice and been defeated twice in those six games leaving his side in 10th place on a meager 11 points. To add to Ken Odhiambo’s woes, Sofapaka will be missing the services of top scorer and club captain Elli Asieche who left the club them for rejuvenated Wazito.

Sofapaka however head into the game after a ten-day break and with history favouring them. In the eight previous encounters between them and Zoo, they have not lost any game, winning six and drawing two. They welcome back the services of former Gor Mahia player Lawrence Juma who was serving a two match ban for the red card he received against Nzoia Sugar. Timothy Otieno, another former Gor player, is also expected to start alongside a host of new signings who have joined the team.

Zoo, on the other hand, come into the game as the only side that is yet to win any game in this season’s campaign. Herman Iswekha, Zoo’s head coach was positive about his charges but stressed that they need to start converting chances to change their fortune.

“The boys are trying because this, to us, looks like preseason due to the issues we had. The way they are playing, there is something they can offer. We can’t keep on saying we’ve played well and the results are not showing, it will be hard. When you look at our games, our build up is very good. For example, against Bidco, on another day the game would have ended 4-2. They wasted one on one chances in front of goal.” the head coach noted.

Iswekha expects a tough challenge from Sofapaka who have not had results going the way they had wished, but he hopes his side can come up with the goods.

“We’ve lost our last two games against Nzoia and our first match at home. The game against Sofapaka won’t be an easy one. They are a good side but I think they also know that it won’t be easy. I have faith that tomorrow will be my day,” the head coach noted.

The kickoff time is 1500EAT.
