In the other FKFPL match of the day, resurgent FC Talanta recorded their first back-to-back wins of the campaign humbling a much-rotated Muhoroni Youth 2-0 to extend their unbeaten streak to seven games

Defender Brian Eshihanda on Friday struck twice as Kakamega Homeboyz registered their first back-to-back wins this season in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) with a 5-0 rout of the vising Sofapaka FC at Bukhungu Stadium.

Eshihanda, who started his playing career as a striker playing for GDC Nakuru and then in the third division, fired past Batoto Ba Mungu custodian Omwena Brent in the 41st and 44th minute respectively to inspire the 2023 Mozzart Bet Cup winners to the biggest win of the campaign thus far.

The returning Stephen Opoku, Ambrose Sifuna, and Christopher Masinza scored a goal a piece to complete the riot over the inconsistent Ezekiel Akwana-instructed 2009 Kenya Premier League champions.

Homeboyz’s big win over Sofapaka propelled them to fourth on the log with 18 points, three points behind league leaders Posta Rangers who will take to the field on Saturday.

Sofapaka, who have played 11 matches remains rooted at the bottom of the 18-team FKF Premier League table.

Homeboyz came into the clash on the back of a comfortable 2-0 win over Muhoroni Youth last Sunday to bag their fourth win in the campaign. For Sofapaka, they were from a 3-0 thumping at the hands of the resurgent FC Talanta in their last league encounter.

After a closely contested opening thirty minutes, Abana Ba Ingo took a deserved lead against the embattled Sofapaka with Opoku racing on an incoming Eston Omengo’s corner delivery to head home from close range.

As the match progressed, the hosts maintained their momentum high bagging a second in the 41st minute through Eshihanda who rose the highest to slot home a Kevin Amwayi delivery. Three minutes later, the towering defender put the game beyond Sofapaka’s reach after he beat Omwena with a close-range header before Sifuna picked up Moses Shumah's cross to hit home a fourth against his former bosses.

Masinza added one in the 60th minute turning in a cross from his elder brother Enock Masinza to complete Homeboyz’s big win to the delight of hundreds of home fans who had thronged Bukhungu.

In the other FKFPL match of the day, resurgent FC Talanta recorded their first back-to-back wins of the campaign humbling a much-rotated Muhoroni Youth 2-0 to extend their unbeaten streak to seven games in a match staged at Ruaraka Grounds on Friday afternoon.

Ian Omondi and Alfred Tanui 3rd and 90+10 minute goals respectively, were enough to hand the Ken Kenyatta-coached side maximum points that lift the club to fifth on the log on 18 points after 11 Football Kenya Federation Premier League rounds while the defeat relegates Muhoroni to 16th on the standings one point clear of the drop zone.
