FKFPL: Blunt Leopards escape Shark attack as Posta floors Shabana

Reading Time: 4min | Sun. 09.02.25. | 18:03

Elsewhere in Awendo, Mara Sugar came from a goal down to smash sorry Talanta 4-1

And just like their meeting in the first leg, ninety minutes was not enough to separate AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks as they settled for a barren draw at Dandora Stadium on Sunday.

Billed as a game Ingwe could take advantage of to stay within the league’s high-flyers, lacklustre Leopards failed to launch, and were in hindsight the luckier team to escape the highly-heated contest with a point.

A hungrier Sharks will however blame themselves for not taking advantage of their clear-cut opportunities, a damning concern for coach William Muluya’s side that is now on an eight-game winless run stretching back to 2024.

Just from the jump, Leopards were under the pump as their defense was caught out by a combination play between Andreas Odhiambo and Steve Mbulere, only for the latter to take his time, before pushing his last-ditch effort off the foot of the post.

That escape seemed to spur Leopards on, but every time they reached closer to the opposition box, a miscue from Ovella Ochieng derailed their efforts.

When close enough, Musa Oundo could only hit straight at Sebastian Wekesa.

At the half-hour mark, Leopards had keeper Levis Opiyo to thank after his strong right paw kept out Francis Memusi’s goal-bound effort from an inviting cross.

An unfortunate injury to Victor Otieno nullified Ingwe’s efforts down the left, and it would take till the 65th minute for them to carve out a decent effort - Victor Omune forcing Wekesa to a flying save from the edge of the box.

On the other end, Ally Salum developed cold feet at the worst moment to keep the scores intact.

The substitute, with a one-on-one opportunity from Odhiambo’s clever pass, failed to pull the trigger after past last man Ken Owino, much to the delight of Opiyo.

And while the keeper got plaudits from the Leopards fans, that was another head spinner for Sharks, who had to brave late incursions from Ingwe for another point - their record 10th this season.

Shabana stunned by Posta

Elsewhere at Kenyatta Stadium, Shabana dropped their sixth game of the campaign after surprisingly falling 2-1 to lowly Posta.

Everything looked to be going the visitor's way when Dennis Okoth scored in the 28th minute, only for Posta to stage a comeback.

Posta's equalizer came with just a minute to the break through Shami Kibwana, before Curtis Wekesa struck in the 52nd minute to complete the turnaround.

The result saw Posta, who pushed Gor Mahia all the way last weekend, climb out of the relegation zone, and are now 15th with 20 points.

Shabana, with their first loss of the year, remained seventh on 28 points.

Mara rout Talanta

Elsewhere at Awendo Green Stadium, Mara Sugar took a giant step towards safety after coming from behind to thrash sorry Talanta 4-1.

After going down to an early Talanta goal in the 37th minute, Mara rebounded in stunning fashion in the second half, breezing away from their opponents to rise to ninth on the log.

Their equalizer came just two minutes from the break through substitute Robert Obaga, before Erick Juma turned the tables with another goal three minutes later.

It took till the last 10 minutes for Mara to put the result beyond doubt, and thanks to a quickfire double from Joseph Okwenda, who netted in the 82nd and 89th minute to seal the big win.

Talanta, with their league-high 10th defeat, dropped to 16th place, tied with fellow basement sides Bidco United and Nairobi City Stars.
