FKF to host all 18 top flight clubs in national club licensing workshop

Football Kenya Federation is set to host club officials from the eighteen Premier League clubs for a Club Licensing workshop on Friday, August 4 in Nairobi.

The workshop is as a precursor to the Club Licensing process for the domestic season 2023/2024 and is aimed at sensitizing the clubs on the FKF draft regulations and also to get feedback from them on the same.

Feedback sourced from the clubs shall inform the final document for the club licensing regulations.

Clubs will also be sensitized on the sanctions to be imposed in case there will be an inability to meet criteria for licensing.

The club licensing criteria will be measured against five elements including, sporting, infrastructure, personnel, legal and financial elements.

Clubs will have to meet the mandatory requirements to be able to be given a license to compete in all domestic competitions.

The club licensing process will also be rolled out to the FKF-NSL clubs in due course.

As fronted by World’s governing body FIFA through respective confederations, club licensing is designed to improve club football by targeting key areas in club governance and youth football.

In June, the Football Kenya Federation’s First Instance Body (FIB) granted club licenses to Gor Mahia, Tusker and Kakamega Homeboyz.

The three clubs were granted the licences after meeting the CAF Club Licensing regulations through their application submitted before the June 25 deadline.

However, Gor lost theirs late last month due to a breach of article 60 of the CAF Licensing regulations, specifically concerning the timely clearing of player dues.

The record Kenyan champions went on to lose the chance to feature in the CAF Champions League as well.

Gor have been engaged in a back and forth with their former foreign players who reported the club to FIFA for failing to pay arrears on time.

The three include Burundian Jules Ulimwengu, Congolese striker Sando Sando Yangayay and Malian goalkeeper Adama Keita.
