The first leg and second leg dates for the promotion/relegation playoff match between Vihiga United and Kenya Police has officially been set to take place on 12th September and 19th September respectively at venues that are yet to be confirmed.

After the conclusion of the 2020/2021 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) and the National Super League (NSL), Vihiga and Police booked their place to the playoff match that is normally a preserve of teams that finish 16th in the FKFPL and 3rd in the NSL.

Back in the premature 2019/2020 season, Vihiga became the first second-tier team to win a playoff match as they defeated Kisumu All-Stars to earn promotion to the top league. This time though, they will be seeking to prevent Police from replicating their history setting record in order to maintain their top-flight status.
