Bucks are yet to drop points this term and sit top of the league on goal difference
Newly promoted Nakuru Bucks head coach Peter Wekesa has spoken highly of his players ahead of their weekend action against another league debutant, Kiminini Combined from Kitale.
Bucks, who are in the league by virtue of emerging victorious in the FKF Division Two central zone promotion playoffs staged a couple of moons ago, have had a good start to the third tier as they are yet to drop points and sit joint top of the log thanks to their superior goal difference.
Wekesa, who has led the team to two consecutive promotions initially, attributes the team's strong entry into the third tier to the work rate exhibited by his young squad, noting that he has a group fully focused on making it through football.
“I have a young side that understands what they want in football and wants to achieve something in their playing career. The players are determined to fight out for the Bucks, and most of them are targeting turning pro, which can be seen from the results we have so far registered in the league,” offered the coach.
On the league technicality, the tactician admitted to being cautious when approaching matches since most teams have overstayed in the third division as compared to the Bucks, who are making a maiden appearance.
“We need to be very careful in this league and with how we handle games since we are facing sides that have been here for a longer period of time and our side is very young; otherwise, I am happy with how they have been approaching matches since we came here,” he added.
Wekesa is also aware of the threat posed by their weekend opponent, Kiminini Combined, who are searching for their first three points of the third division, and he terms them a worthy opponent.
“Our focus now is on the weekend match against Combined, who are a good side that is also pushing themselves. It is going to be tough keeping in mind that they are yet to drop points this season, and they will be looking to do so at their backyard, but we will approach the game with a lot of keenness to challenge them and hopefully come back with three points,” he told the club website.
He further retaliated his players' readiness to fight till the last whistle to corroborate maximum points for the ambitious cooperate-owned club.
“The players are ready and we thank God none of them has picked up a knock, therefore we are going to Kitale for three points nothing less, “he stated.
Meanwhile, the club mentor has praised the team management for being supportive since their promotion to Division One ensuring that his crew had all the essential needs at their feet to perform
“The management has been very supportive ever since in Division Two up to now, they have ensured players are happy in the camp and have anything required to squeeze results out of them. Through our bosses we have managed to have a good relationship with the outside community and in the process create a strong Bucks fanbase,’ he concluded.
A win for the Nakuru-stationed club will see them open a three-point gap at the summit of the league suppose APS Bomet fails to win in their league action.
