APS Bomet are currently third on the log with 15 points after nine games
APS Bomet coach Alfred Chole thinks there is still room for improvement after his side beat Transfoc 2-1 in a Football Kenya Federation Division One Zone B match staged at the Equip College Grounds on Sunday.
After taking the lead in the opening minutes of the first half courtesy of Dickens Wambugu’s well-taken shot from outside the box, the law enforcers were pegged back when the backline failed to take care of a free-kick allowing the hosts to pounce and make it 1-1, but a moment t of brilliance from Philip Wasai with ten minutes to the conclusion the tie won all the three points for the former National Super League side.
Chole said the side failed to scale to heights of their own and could have bagged a couple of goals but nevertheless was satisfied with the win and display from the team. “It was tough against Transfoc, especially in the first half. We did not execute well but in the second half, the game opened up and we were able to score and come out with the win,” offered Chole.
Chole, who was part of the team that earned promotion to FKF Premier League before nullification and campaign and their subsequent relegation to the third division, noted that the win raised adrenaline in his squad and has them motivated to get back to the second tier.
“That win was essential, everyone at the club was pleased because Transfoc are really a good side and they caused a lot of trouble for us, it shows that the team is starting to get together and they will get better and better with more matches,” said the former St. Mary’s Yala gaffer.
The youthful gaffer expressed optimism that APS was going to build from the win and try to challenge for the title noting that the league and promotion.
“We tried out different combinations in the opening games and we can see it is finally paying, we picked lessons from the match and hopefully this is just a start for my boys. Our aim is to try to win as many matches as possible and eventually get promoted at the end of the season,” expressed Chole.
APS will be training this week with eyes set on a weekend clash against Vegpro FC who remain the only unbeaten side in the league so far, and Chole says his target is to inflict a first defeat of the season to the flower growers and leapfrog them on the standings.
“We are preparing for Vegpro this weekend at Bomet Stadium with our main on the second spot. We know they are performing very well but we must give them a proper beating on Saturday,” he concluded.
Bomet are currently third on the log with 15 points after nine games.
