S. OchiengFKF Cup makes comeback after one and a half year absence

The domestic Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup used to determine the team that will qualify for the continental CAF Confederation Cup is set to make its comeback in the country from February 2023 following a one and a half year absence, FKF has announced.
In an official statement, the country’s football governing body alerted all interested teams to register for the competition as they announced that the tournament will start on February 11.

“Football Kenya Federation wishes to inform you that the FKF Cup 2022/2023 edition will commence on February 11, 2023.
Clubs planning to take part in the tournament are advised to submit their application using the attached form and remit a participation fee of KES 30,000 to the FKF account provided below, on or before Thursday, January 26, 2023,” the notice read.
According to the schedule released, the registration deadline for the competition is January 26 with the tournament draw scheduled for February 2.
The tournament will then be played in a straight knock out basis from the Round of 64, Round of 32, Round of 16 before the quarterfinals, semifinals take place leading to the final penciled for 24 June 2023.
The last edition of the tournament equivalent to the English FA Cup was held in July 2021 where record Kenyan league champions Gor Mahia trounced bitter rivals AFC Leopards on post-match penalties to qualify for the continental championship.
The 2022 edition of the competition was not held owing to the government’s decision to disband the Nick Mwendwa led federation, a decision that resulted to a lack of representation by any Kenyan team in the tourney.
