FKF commences trials for National U18 team ahead of CECAFA Championship

The trials wil continue in different parts of the country.

More than 50 players had the opportunity to audition for a place in the national U18 girls’ team on Friday 5th May at the Stima Club grounds in Nairobi.

The selection exercise, which is the first of a series of trials lined up in different parts of the country, is aimed at creating a formidable team that will represent Kenya in the upcoming CECAFA U18 Championships.

Coach Beldine Odemba leads the exercise and will be tasked with drafting a provisional squad that will hit camp after the selection exercise ahead of the tournament.

"Youth and women's football remain key on our agenda at FKF," said coach Odemba.

"It is for this reason that we are assessing these players with a view to of creating a strong team that can compete at the international level." added the coach.

While thanking the players who took the time to turn out for the selection exercise, the coach also noted that the junior team was key in sustaining success at the senior level. 

"This team is a conveyor belt of talent to the senior team. If we can If we keep them actively competing, then we can sustain positive results at the senior level," said coach Odemba.

More selection sessions have been lined up for May 7, 2023, at the Butere. Girls School in the Western Region, Jomo Kenyatta Sports Grounds in Nyanza Region, and the Shanzu TTC Grounds at the Coast.

The final tournament, to be hosted in Kenya, has been scheduled for June. 24, 2024. Kenya will also host the boys' edition from November 26th to December 9th 2023.
