The five will be out of Kenyan football action till their presumed return on 24 March 2024

A quintet of South Sudanese players plying trade in Kenya - for FKF Premier League and National Super League sides - have been officially summoned for international duty with their Under-20 national team in readiness for their participation in the All African Games early next month.

South Sudan, who made the Accra games slated for 7-22 March courtesy of a quarter-finals run in last year’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, have called up Sofapaka’s Jacob Addis and new Gor Mahia signing Chal Chuol among the players in the Kenyan top tier league.

Joining them from the NSL are: Daniel Bichok (Nairobi United), Paul Jawa (Rainbow FC) and Laat Ayiei of Darajani Gogo.

“As part of our preparation for the games, we would appreciate their release to join training and will be back on 24 March 2024,” part of South Sudan’s letter written by FA Secretary General Victor Lawrence Lual Lual to FKF read on 14 February.

“Therefore we appreciate your kind office for allowing the participation of these players during the international sessions.”

All quarter finalists from the U-20 AFCON tournament staged last year in Egypt automatically secured a slot in the All African Games, and will be joined up by hosts Ghana.

All players called up bar Chuol and Ayiei, were part of the squad that won a game in the group stages - against Central African Republic - last year, before suffering a 5-0 humbling in the hands of Gambia in the last 16.

Rainbow’s Jawa is the most accomplished player of the lot, as he on 14 June last year made his senior team debut with South Sudan in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers clash with Gambia, and went ahead to make an appearance for Bright Stars in a September friendly against Kenya’s Harambee Stars; which they won 1-0.

Bichok, on the other hand, was elected captain of South Sudan’s team in the CECAFA U18 boy’s tournament held in Kenya last year.
