Firat urges authorities to set up a training centre for Harambee Stars

Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has challenged the relevant authorities to set up a training centre for the team to facilitate sound preparations for international matches. The Turkish gaffer made the call shortly after he guided the team to their first win in the 2022 World Cup qualifier - a 2-1 win over Rwanda at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Firat who was appointed late in September to succeed Jacob Mulee observed that time was ripe for the team to have its own centre instead of relying on the available and congested facilities and hotels. Firat who expressed his desire to handle the coach for a longer time also called for the establishment of youth centres to develop a wider pool of players.

“The team needs a training centre to enable good preparations for matches. Kenyan football also deserves more youth centres to help in nurturing talents while the players both in the league and national team deserve to play on better surfaces,” he said.

Firat who is coaching in the continent for the first time conceded that Kenya was blessed with talented players and shared the idea of having at least forty for the national team where twenty will be fighting for to feature in the first team, ten to inject competition while the rest will be slowly be incorporated in the team.

“The experience in coaching in Kenya has been good but I wasn’t impressed with the officiating levels in our last two matches. The future looks bright as talents are scattered all over and we have more abroad whom I intend to give a chance should my stay be extended,” he added.
