The FIFA council suspended Kenya on February 24th with immediate effect due to third party interference, in particular, the takeover of football by a caretaker committee appointed by the government, which is a serious violation of the FIFA statutes
Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side Police FC are appealing to the government to intervene over the FIFA suspension.
Police suffered the consequence of the suspension after their international friendly against Rayon Sports of Rwanda was iced at the last minute on Saturday.
The team had travelled to Kigali for the warm-up only to be informed by the hosts that the match could not proceed as Kenyan teams are not allowed to engage in any international matches.
"The FIFA suspension affects clubs even in friendly matches. We got advice from Ferwafa (Rwandan football governing body)," Namenya Patrick, Rayon Sports acting General Secretary, told Mozzart Sport.
Police FC Chief Executive Officer Chris Oguso is now appealing to the government to step in and ensure that the suspension is lifted.
"I plead with the National government to intervene, the suspension is killing our football," Chris told Daily Nation.
FIFA, the global football body, suspended Kenya from all football activities in February over third party interference.
In November last year, the Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed disbanded the entire FKF over alleged maladministration and corruption, a move that attracted the wrath of FIFA.
In a letter to all the members of FIFA, the Zurich-based body warned of any sporting contact with FKF.
"We remind you and your affiliates not to enter in any sporting contact with the FKF and/or its teams while the FKF is suspended."
Police, however, will remain in Rwanda for a ten-day camp as they prepare for the upcoming FKFPL 2022/23 season.
