FIFA orders AFC Leopards to pay ex-player Ksh 1.8 million

World football governing body FIFA has slapped AFC Leopards with a Ksh1.8 million fine for unlawful dismissal of a player.

Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) giants AFC Leopards have been slapped with a Ksh1.8 million fine for the unlawful dismissal of their former midfielder Vincent Habamahoro.

In a communiqué obtained by Mozzart Sport, FIFA Head of Players’ Status, Erika Montemor Ferreira revealed that the world football governing body partially accepted the claims presented by the player.

Ingwe were handed a 45-day ultimatum to settle the player's dues or face a three-window transfer ban which will only be lifted upon completion of the period and once the Habamahoro is paid the Ksh1.8 million.

A letter from the world governing body to Ingwe confirmed the fine and broke down the Ksh1.8 million fine.

“Please find attached the findings of the decision passed in the aforementioned matter. We kindly invite you to take note of this decision. We remain at your disposal,” read part of the letter.

Leopards were ordered to pay the midfielder Ksh. 460,000 as outstanding salary from August to December 2019.

A further Ksh 997,561 is to be paid to Habamahoro as compensation for breach of contract without just cause plus 5% annual interest from 14 September 2020 until the date of effective payment.

FIFA also ordered Ingwe to pay Ksh 270,000 as additional compensation plus 5% annual interest from 14 September 2020 until the date of effective payment.

In the event that the fine plus interest are still not paid by the end of the ban of three entire transfer bans, the matter shall be submitted, upon request, to FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee for consideration and a formal decision.

Habamahoro joined Rwandan side Kiyovu Sports back in January 2020 after he terminated his contract with Ingwe in the wake of a pay-dispute following a period of four months without salary.

The period also saw Tresor Ndikumana who has signed for Gasogi United in the Rwandan league after also quit Ingwe alongside Soter Kayumba and Ismailia Diarra.

Across the border Tanzanian heavyweights Young Africans (Yanga) have been banned from signing players for three transfer windows after failing to pay Amisi Tambwe his sign-on fee and salaries.
